To begin... I absolutely love the Christian rapper Flame. After Lucas introduced his music by playing it in my car, I got my own copy and I have not listened to anything else other than him for a week! It's funny because...I haven't been a fan of Christian rap for a long time. Apparently my Bible teacher isn't either. But, I don't really see how it gives an 'appearance of evil'. How can you think of 'bad' and 'gang-related' things when the words the rapper is saying are convicting and true? Music is changing and the culture is changing. Though we are not supposed to 'conform' to the world, I don't think it's a bad idea to understand and recognize that the world does change and do something about it. Christian rap, r&b is doing a great job in appealing to and providing for those younger Christians that would like to listen to more fast-paced music. Imagine you are on a missions trip to spread the gospel to inner-city New York City high school students. Do you think the method of just opening the bible in front of them and reading some verses would work? I don't think so! It would probably require some activities to break the ice and then find out what their interests are and strategically plan to display the gospel in the best way possible. I am NOT saying that reading bible verses is bad way of displaying the gospel...hopefully none of you thought that. Just saying, it might require different methods for people that have grown up in a different culture.
I don't even know why I'm talking about music...didn't really mean to get into it but I have been thinking about it a lot lately. Anyways, I'm going to use this as a tool to help me reflect more on things that I read from the Bible, or something that someone preached, or maybe a line from a song that really caught my attention. I was going to write something about what I learned in Bible class (Mark chapter 14) today...but it's getting late, and I have to spend 1-2 hours on this history homework..and it's 11:16pm right now. Awesome! I have detention tomorrow at 6 too...mix that in with track workout and 20 minute drive each way to school..equals a verryyy tiring life of mine! I am going to get an hour of workout in at the Cedar Falls Rec Center before morning from now on. (At least try to) It would help me a lot since I don't have much time to lift because of running and soccer coming up. Anyways..Bye!
That's a really good persuasive speech or paper topic! The whole rap thang. I agree with it.
